In support of the 2017 President's Challenge, ASTHO is convening state public health leaders and national experts in a webinar series to explore evidence-based strategies, policy challenges, and new opportunities to prevent substance misuse and addictions.

 

Join us on Aug. 17, 2017 from 2-3 p.m. EDT for a webinar on primary prevention strategies aimed at enhancing protective factors and reducing risk factors for substance misuse and addictions.


Moderator: Jay C. Butler, MD
Jay Butler, ASTHO president and chief medical officer for the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, will moderate the webinar, explain the core principles of primary prevention, and discuss the role of state public health agencies in promoting prevention efforts to address substance misuse.

 

Jared Arnett, MBA
Jared Arnett, executive director for Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR), will discuss efforts to build greater prosperity, resilience, and equity in the Appalachian region and highlight SOAR's work to reduce the impact of substance misuse in Kentucky.

 

Tracy Dolan, MS
Tracy Dolan, deputy health commissioner for the Vermont Department of Health, will explain Vermont's regional prevention partnership program and school programming interventions.
Dolan will also describe how Vermont is utilizing multisector partnerships to reduce opioid misuse and address adverse childhood experiences.

 

Brigid McCaw, MD, MS, MPH, FACP
Brigid McCaw, medical director of Kaiser Permanente's Family Violence Prevention Program, will provide an overview of the program's approach to preventing trauma and offer perspectives on
how health departments can engage payers and healthcare partners in this work.
