Personalize your emails to your Senators! If you have a connection with them, or have worked with them on past events, remind them of your involvement. Mention specific injury or violence prevention initiatives in your state, or tell about a personal experience with injury or violence. Here's what one Safe States member, Don Lindsey, sent to his Senators.

To Senators Alexander and Corker:

Dear Sen. ,

I'm writing today to ask your help by signing on to Sen. Brian Schatz's "Dear Colleague" letter urging level-funding for the CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control in the FY 2018 budget.

Before I retired last summer from AAA in Knoxville I worked on many injury prevention efforts, and I continue to do so now as a volunteer. I've personally seen the success of CDC-supported programs such as fall prevention. I've seen safety groups from all over Tennessee pick up valuable techniques and collaborators in CDC-sponsored meetings at Tennessee's Health Department. I've also seen many older drivers light up when they learn critical safety features of their cars in CarFit events.

These collaborations would not be possible without support from the CDC's Injury Prevention Center. Please sign the Sen. Schatz "Dear Colleague" letter in support of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Don Lindsey
