Today, May 5, is the final day to contact your senators regarding the Senator Schatz "Dear Colleague" letter urging protection of funding for injury and violence prevention. While those of us who work in IVP know how important this work is, it's critical to communicate with our representatives in Congress. Below is a sample email from a Safe States member that you can customize for your senators.

Dear (your senator's name),

I am contacting you today as a constituent from (your city and state) to ask that you sign Senator Brian Schatz's “Dear Colleague” letter urging level-funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control in the FY 2018 budget. Injuries and Violence are the leading cause of death in the first four decades of life.  Whether it is sexual violence, motor vehicle crashes, or falls among older adults, the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control is at the forefront of preventing these tragic events. Funding from this Center is also vital for the success of preventing these injuries at the state and local level. Collaborations between federal, state, and local public health professionals would not be possible without support from the CDC’s Injury Center.

Please sign the Senator Schatz “Dear Colleague” letter in support of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.

Sincerely,
