 Preview Application Form

BACKGROUND

Safe States’ Behavioral Health Workgroup initiative is designed to bring together subject matter experts across national-level organizations, research communities, and government agencies to examine important issues facing state highway safety efforts, state injury and violence prevention programs, and driver behavior patterns – with special emphasis on the impact of shared risk and protective factors on these patterns. This workgroup will convene over a 12-18 month period to identify key behavioral factors critical to safe driving, distinguish evidence-based practices effective for behavior change, align the best available evidence-based methods to affect change specifically for safe driving behaviors, and develop three actionable resources.

CHAIRPERSON ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Safe States is currently soliciting applications for a Workgroup Chairperson for the Behavioral Health Workgroup, which will focus on identifying shared risk and protective factors across risky driving behaviors, and providing guidance to the traffic safety and public health injury prevention community relative to best practices and evidence-based strategies to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities due to driver behavior.

The Workgroup Chairperson
is responsible for the overall guidance and facilitation of the workgroup and is responsible for ensuring the development of the content for the final actionable resources.  While the workgroup will collectively identify the resource content, Safe States Alliance staff will be responsible for the formal resource development (formatting, dissemination, etc.). Workgroup Chairperson duties include:

  • Maintaining group motivation and engagement;
  • Delegating individual duties (e.g., writing, research, sub-workgroup activities, etc.);
  • Organizing calls and meetings;
  • Adhering to the project timeline;
  • Utilizing effective processes to reach consensus;
  • Working collaboratively with workgroup members and Safe States staff;
  • Facilitating equal participation among all workgroup members;
  • Ensuring the timely development of all final actionable resource content; and
  •   Being available to participate in a two-day Behavioral Health Workgroup kickoff meeting in Washington, DC during the week of January 22nd or January 29th.

Upon completion of the final actionable resources, the Workgroup Chair will be eligible to receive an honorarium of $5000.
