Policy & Position Statements, and Resolutions
Safe States Alliance uses policy and position statements to describe the Association’s views on a variety of injury and violence prevention issues and to reflect the wide-ranging interests of the Safe States Alliance membership. The policy and position statement process is designed for all members to be engaged in the development and approval of these statements.
A policy statement is a broad and far-reaching statement that describes the association’s policy stance on an overarching topic or issue (e.g., funding, prevention strategies, etc). Policy statements must be approved by the full Safe States membership. Policy statements can be used to inform a member or partner agency’s policy agenda, advocacy efforts, funding priorities, or other policy-related activities.
A position statement is an explanation, a justification or a recommendation for a course of action that reflects the association’s stance regarding the concern. Position statements are time sensitive, narrowly defined, or are a further development or interpretation of Safe States Alliance policy. The Safe States Alliance Executive Committee must approve all position statements.
