How to Apply for a 2019 STAT Visit

About the STAT Program | Become a STAT Team Member

Applications for the 2019 STAT Visit are now closed! Check back in the Fall of 2019 for the 2020 visit application!

Requesting a STAT Visit

While it is Safe States’ intention to make STAT visits available to as many states as possible, limited resources are available. Therefore, Safe States has developed a state application process for use in the STAT Program. The request for applications (RFA) is announced by Safe States through in the fall of each year. STAT visits are funded through contracts granted to Safe States from federal agencies and organizations and are supplemented by contributions from participating states. The provision of these visits is dependent on this financial support.

Step 1: Learn about STAT

State IVPPs that are interested in receiving a STAT visit should make an effort to understand the State Technical Assessment Team process completely. Read the entire State Guide to the STAT Program. Call the Safe States office and request information about STAT. Safe States staff can also connect you to members from states that have received a STAT visit in the past who may be a resource for you.

Step 2: Plan to serve on a State Technical Assessment Team

As part of the preparation for a visit, Safe States strongly encourages a state IVPP director and other staff to serve on a STAT. It is best to serve on a team at least one year before applying for a STAT visit.  When a member of the state IVPP staff has served on a STAT, the state IVPP is better equipped and prepared for its own visit.

Step 3: Submit a letter of intent and a letter of support to Safe States

States must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a formal request for a STAT visit. This letter may be brief, but should include the state name, the official name of the IVPP/agency requesting the STAT visit, and information for contacting the program. The letter of intent from the state IVPP should be submitted to Safe States by the deadline specified in the RFA.

Step 4: Submit a written request for a STAT visit

The core components of the application remain consistent, although the guidelines for applications may be revised from year to year. The application will be made available for download at the top of this page.

Step 5: Receive a response from Safe States

Once states have been selected to receive a visit, Safe States will notify all states that applied for a visit. While Safe States will make every effort to accommodate the state’s first choice of STAT visit dates (indicated in the application), team member availability will dictate which of the preferred dates will be selected.
